PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended to June 30, 2020




For those who are yet to link their PAN with Aadhaar, this extension will come as a relief as not linking the two will lead to the PAN becoming ‘inoperative’, as per current income tax laws.

However, chartered accountants advise people to link the two as soon as possible. According to income tax laws, an individual having an inoperative PAN would be assumed not to have a PAN. Further, it would be deemed that he/she has not quoted/furnished/intimated the same wherever it is mandatorily required. Such an individual may be liable for penal consequences i.e. penalty of Rs 10,7000 under the Income-tax Act, 1961.

can be linked with Aadhaar either by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161, through the income tax department’s e-filing website, or manually by filling a specified form at a designated PAN service centre (for example NSDL). If you are already filing income tax return (ITR), it is likely that your PAN is linked to Aadhaar.

He government on Tuesday extended the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar from March 31 to June 30. The government’s decision comes amid new Coronavirus outbreak that has infected over 500 people across India.

The Income Tax Department had earlier issued a public message saying it was “mandatory” to link PAN with Aadhaar. If not linked, PAN will become inoperative. One can do it through Biometric Aadhaar authentication or by visiting the PAN service centers of NSDL and UTITSL

Step 1. Visit the Income Tax e-Filing website to link your PAN and Aadhaar

Step 2. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the form

Step 3. Enter your name as mentioned in your Aadhaar card

Step 4. In case only your birth year is mentioned on your Aadhaar card, you have to tick the square

Step 5. Now enter the captcha code mentioned in the image for verification

Step 6. Click on the “Link Aadhaar” button

Step 7. A pop-up message will appear that your Aadhaar will be successfully linked with your PAN
